Quote-A-Day: Day 340

If you want something done, do it yourself. If you want something done well, do it with others. #QuoteADay #Day340 #satchat #edchat #edu

While it is true that you tend to be able to get things done when you do them yourself, it is also true that you tend to be sacrificing quality for the sake of quickness.  If you truly want something done well, then it pays to do so collaboratively.

There are a few reasons for this.

First, when we do things with others, we open ourselves up to a multitude of different opinions and ideas that we never would have considered before.  The greater the opinions/viewpoints we have, the more likely we’ll end up with an idea that truly benefits the most people we serve.

Second, when we do things with others, the process takes more time.  And nothing helps develop great ideas like the time to reflect on them.

Thirdly, working with others creates a community, rather than creating a chasm.  This one doesn’t need much further explanation. :)

The important question to always ask yourself is whether it is more important to be quick, or more important to turn out a quality product.

Since we’ll often choose the latter, as much as we’re able to, we should be investing in always inventing with others.
