Quote-A-Day: Day 61

The more people you meet, the more you stand to . Always be on the lookout to build .

I've learned that in life, nothing is as important as the relationships you build with others.  So, it pays to be comfortable schmoozing a bit, and getting to know those around you.  Every person we meet has the potential to teach us something, and whether it's a person on the checkout line, your mail carrier, or an educator new to your organization, it pays to build relationships that have the potential to be mutually beneficial.

That doesn't mean you have to talk up every single person you meet (which is fine, if that's how you roll).  Rather, it means that when the opportunity presents itself to get to know somebody, you should.  We never know how we'll be shaped by those in our lives.

Relationship building is a funny thing.  There are no real rules that go into forming relationships that work (with the exception of treating everyone with the respect they deserve).  Therefore, it is impossible to predict who you will meet and how you'll end up teaching and learning from each other.  So, embrace the opportunities that arise to connect with others...

...and do whatever you can to keep those connections from fraying.  Sometimes we wonder why we have to pull all the weight in certain relationships.  Yet, times will arise (they always do) when we'll need some help with the weight we're carrying.  That's when those we've connected with, learned from, and befriended, can truly help us be the people we most want to be.
